Blessing the Sea                 Blessing the Sea - Sheet Music

Chorus:
Blessed be the green of the waves that come beckon us through,
Blessed be the sweep of the plain that rolls shining and blue,
Blessed be the white of the foam and its dance on the shore,
Blessed be the purple horizon that opens the door.

Verse 1:
Blessed be the King of the Ocean with spear lifted high,
Grateful we are for the bounty he sends to our need.
Blessed be the Queen of the Sea with her sparkling green eyes
Hail to the Lady whose hair flows in all of the weed.
Blessed be the ice that supports the white bears as they roam,
Hail to the towers of crystal that float in the cold.
Blessed be the islands like pearls on the face of the foam,
Hail to the mists and the myst’ries you hold.

Verse 2:
Blessed be the blood in our veins, scarlet seawater stream,
Coursing in time to all rivers that run to the coast.
Blessed be the whirlpool that haunts all our shadowy dreams,
May we soon learn to respect all the dark we fear most.
Blessed be the storm-wave that welcomes the tears from the sky,
Weep for the damage we’ve caused to her kin and her lands,
Blessed be the wave-horse that sweeps us away on its ride,
Lift up your voices and help with your hands.

Verse 3:
Blessed be the force of the wave and the song of the whale,
May we be saved from the wrath of the sea on the land,
Blessed be the rhythm of tides and the Moon’s silver sail,
Hail to the touch of the silver light bright on the sands,
Blessed be the Sun glinting bright on the fair-weather day,
Hail to the sea that sends rain to the soil of the earth,
Blessed be the waters that wakened our life as it lay,
Hail to the power that once gave us birth.

Final Chorus:
Blessed be the green of the waves that come beckon us through,
Blessed be the sweep of the plain that rolls shifting and blue,
Blessed be the white of the foam and its dance on the shore,
Blessed be the purple horizon that opens the door.
Blessed be the rose of the fortress of coral that grows,
Blessed be the black of the depths that no land-dweller knows,
Blessed be the call of the sea in the hazy grey morn,
Blessed be the giver of life in all colors that form, and the womb of the world
Where once we were born (5x, on 5th time quietly)
Where once we were born (T,A,S)
Where once we were born (A,S)
Where once we were born… (S, very quietly)
