Freya’s Gift
Hang them in the window
Like drops of golden sun,
Amber beads rough formed
Gathered from the waves
And on fishing line fair strung;
Stones that gleam of Sunna’s rays
Caught tight and held steadfast.
Sunshine trapped forever
In gems that light does last.
Hang them in the window
Like drops of golden sun,
Gifts of the goddess Freya,
Od’s beloved one
Who searched the world so seeking
Her lost and wedded man.
Golden tears her trail betraying
As she sought the man so straying.
So hang the amber in the window
Like drops of golden sun,
Those stones fair blessed by Freya;
Light of the Vanir goddess’ gifting,
Though it’s the waves
That do the sifting.
