I Stand Alone

I stand alone, shieldwall smashed
Brothers down, like saplings pulled up by a strong wind
Shield splintered, sword dripping foemen's life
Harold Fair-Hair has won the day.
Lo, my Lord must get away; I die to gain him time
My knitted strand has come to an end
My final stand will win me fame that will be told for years
Freyja's maidens wait to carry me to One Eye's hall.
Come dogs, end this tale, or do you still fear my bite?
