~ Poetry by me ~

On a Compliment

I am most humbly flattered by your praise

That you enjoyed my songs and rhymes so much;
That words of pen and sound of voice as such
Have to a gracious heart thus found their ways.

But wise it is to praise where praise is due:
Not the poor mortal who is just a tool,
But to the High Ones homage pay, who rule
The realm of rhyme, and grant Odhroerir's brew.

But tell, what good could poetry ever do,
If not the reader's sympathetic eye
And ear enjoyed the skaldic verse? Thereby
Odhroerir's true recipient is you.

And so the gift of Mead will run its course
To bring alive the beauty of the Norse.
