All Father
I think any god
worthy of the title
would be profoundly sad
and disillusioned to learn
that humans still
worshipped him.
He would rather, I think,
see us stand as adults
and face the world
on our own terms,
relying on our own gifts
and armor to thrive.
Only a neurotic god
would demand that we stay
on our knees and sing.
