A Call to the Einherjar

For those who fought in the wars
that spanned the world,
bringing reason to a world
that was spinning out of control.
Trying to heal
what seemed to have been shattered,
put back together pieces
in a way that we could see,
reassemble a cohesive whole.
To those who died, in internment camps,
never to understand
why the world would judge them--

To those dragged from secure,
loving homes,
taken far from where there were comforts,
caring arms,
faces you could rely upon at any time,
who kept their faith
strong within their hearts,
those who survived,
and those who did not--

My family, my father's kin,
an entire branch
lying in the cold ground...
I honor your memory.
You trusted too much for too long--
Your memory is not forgotten,
you are held close to my heart,
you are not gone--

To those who died for the sake of progress,
as we watched with bated breath--
Explorers into the outer reaches of space,
taking our hopes, our dreams with you,
Judy, Krista, and the rest of the Challenger Crew--
We give you our greatest respect. We honor you--

To those who died one sunny day,
captive planes wended their way through the air,
weaving the wyrd of many--
Changing the perception of our world,
never to be seen again as a simple autumn day--
September 11th, shall live as a day
filled with sorrow, loss and pain--
To the families who survived
the ones who had their lives cut short--
Warriors true are each and every one of you--

To the men, women and children,
who die battling disease
which brings them daily to their knees,
the ones who never, give up,
who never give in--
To those who fight until the very end.

You are warriors all!
I give to you this final call!
Hail the Einherjar!
