Feast of the Einherjar
For Veteran's Day

Loving mother, do not weep,
though he lies on the ground,
loving mother, in your keep,
honor him, when he’s found.

He bravely fought for kith and kin
and sallied forth with pride,
he clashed against the wild bear-skins
and boldly watched them die.

Loving mother, do not weep,
though he shall ne’er return,
loving mother, in your keep,
honor him, though you yearn.

He fought until the bitter end,
but chanced upon a blade
that bit him before he could fend
that cold steel in the glade.

Loving mother, do not weep,
he’s gone with lesser men,
loving mother, in your keep,
honor him, as you ken.

He’ll sail the golden waters now,
that glisten under fire.
Toward new horizons points his prow
and flaming, t’will inspire.

Loving mother, do not weep,
though he shall ne’er return,
loving mother, in your keep,
he’s gone to what he’s earned.
