Three Brothers

Bale-Thorn’s daughter Bestla
Bore three brave sons
Named Odin, Vili and Ve
The ur-etin Ymir they slew
And from his death
They brought things new
His blood flowed into
Great lakes and seas
His hair they raised up
To become the trees
His body the earth
His bones became stones
His skull the dome
Of the beautiful sky
His brains scattered
Into the flowing clouds
His eyebrows encircled
Around the in-yard
Fire-world’s sparks
They cast up as stars
The planets courses
They too set firm
To Sunna and Mani
The gave places too
Such is the world
Known to me and you
