Til
Gimle
The day I took my warrior’s oath, I died;
The thread of life I’d lived was cut off clean.
Hand on steel, my new life now beginsthe
blood of ancient sea-kings flows anew!
The Runes are ringing in my blood, renewed;
My new life dedicated to my Troth.
My ancestors have handed down their joy
to carry on to Gimle’s shining halls.
And when I’ve spent the treasure of this life,
my valkyrie will carry me away
Over Bifrost to that mighty hall
to be one with the Einherjar at last.
How I long to join that mead-bench high
and be one with the Einherjar at last!
With Æsir and Einherjar make my stand
to gain my place in Gimle’s shining halls.
I know where I shall stand at Ragnarök!
As loyal Wiglaf stood to Grendel’s bane,
So shall I stand as Hroptyr’s shoulder-man;
to bravely strike at Loki’s loathsome kin.
The power of my bloodlines has come down
to boldly flow through me to that new day.
I know where I shall stand at Ragnarök!
to gain my place in Gimle’s shining halls.
